TARIFF WAR UPDATE

As of September 1, 2025, trade policy shifts by the United States have escalated tariff wars, creating significant disruption for e-commerce businesses globally. Key developments include the elimination any type of import exemption and the imposition of substantial tariffs on goods from countries such as China, India, Brazil, Mexico, and Canada. The move means all imports are now subject to duties and standard customs procedures, raising costs for both businesses and consumers. The broader trade environment remains volatile and unpredictable.

Such practices kill small businesses like ours, which heavily depend on low cost manufacturing of good to keep our pricing in control, and stay relevant. While we dream about having our products ‘made in America’ one day, it is not s a sustainable model right now involving significantly higher manufacturing costs. To give you all a perspective, just a few months back, Element case – a major player with ‘made in America’ phone cases, went out of business. Their cases sold at $300 mark, sadly making them unaffordable for most Americans.

Inflation is high. Material, manufacturing and logistics costs has significantly increased since the onslaught of COVID-19. But we, at LUNATIK, have been resisting price increase by absorbing all these costs at our end for nearly half a decade. But with Tariffs as high as 50%, we will have to make pricing changes without further delay.

PRICING CHANGE / CUSTOMS DUTY

Due to the above mentioned reasons, we are forced to work a turn-around the tariffs! From September 1 onwards, we won’t be stocking / re-stocking products at our local NY warehouse as it will increase our product costs by at least 50-60%, which is simply bad-for-business. If the product is out of stock or not stocked before September 2025, we will be shipping your order from our international global distribution center (GDC). You will need to pay customs duty, but we will make sure that it is significantly low, $20 approx. If it is more than $25, we will absorb and refund you any excess amount above $25.

Lets see a few examples of how the pricing calculation is impacted with Tariffs and without Tariffs:

With Tariffs:
Case Cost: $169 + 50% (tariff) = $169 + $84.5 = $253.5
Case Cost: $100 + 50% (tariff) = $100 + $50.0 = $150.0

Without Tariffs:
Case Cost: $169 + $20 (approx. customs duty) = $189 only
Case Cost: $100 + $20 (approx. customs duty) = $120 only
